Caron was born in Brynaman, Carmarthenshire and attended Amman Valley Grammar School. Caron’s first teaching post was at Ystalyfera Grammar School (1961-62), then Pontardawe Grammar School (1962-63).
In 1963 Caron was appointed to Cathays High School in Cardiff. In 1974 he went to Llantwit Major High School and in 1980 was appointed as Technology and IT Examination Officer for the Welsh Joint Education Committee, where he stayed until he retired. Caron currently works as a consultant to the Engineering Education Scheme in Wales.
